About
My work looks at the relationship between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional structures, questioning whether they can function together as one. While also looking into the various emotions and contextual topics depicted through film and how the absence of motion and sound can alter its visual reading.

I have been inspired by the language of film and graphic novels, as both subjects share an absence of time. They are timeless, hours and years can pass by within a film narrative, the viewer can instantly move through various scenes and locations instantaneously.

However all the structures and viewpoints of a film are determined by the director. Space, perspective and time are all controlled by the director. The viewer reads the film from left to right in a straight line over a dictated period of time. Theses structures inspired me to create a series of works, which look at the elements of time, space and perspective through the language of paint.

Throughout my work I look to breakdown these structures, and distort the reading of the original images. My sculptural work looks at perspective within film. Two dimensional images from chosen films are projected onto the sculptural shapes, the projections bend around the shapes and inevitably warp the image. I look to enhance these distortions through paint. The process alters the original reading of the image.

The various shapes represent fragments of time which depict a moment from a narrative. I then rearrange the order of the shapes, forcing the viewer to walk around them and view the images from obtuse angles, creating even more distortions.

Digital is the future
After six years of working in a traditional painting medium. I have now taken my skill set and applied it to modern media. Using Adobe Photoshop and a graphics tablet I create high resolution concept pieces, based on the themes of "the natural and the mechanical". Man made structures find themselves based in vast utopian vista's. Digital painting has opened my artistic practice up to a host of creative, and diverse opportunities and I look forward to seeing where it takes me in the future.
